Blended Format

Experience the Best of Two Worlds with the Blended Format.

In addition to courses that are 100 percent online or 100 percent on campus, Metropolitan College offers many courses in a blended format. The blended format embraces the traditional values of face-to-face teaching while integrating the best practices of online learning. Devised for professionals seeking a traditional classroom experience that could accommodate busy work schedules and other commitments, courses in the blended format consist of several on-campus class meetings throughout the semester paired with ongoing online study, including student-to-student and student-to-faculty collaboration.

Combining the convenience and accessibility of online learning with classroom instruction and face-to-face interaction with world-class faculty and fellow students, blended courses provide a well-rounded academic experience. Students gain advanced technical and business skills; attend on-campus lectures and seminars; benefit from continuous access to comprehensive and well-organized online course materials; utilize the latest online collaboration technologies; and share newly acquired knowledge, experience, and opinions on discussion boards. Depending on the course, on-campus sessions may include group projects and lab exercises to further cement hands-on skills and business competencies. Students taking blended courses experience the rich atmosphere of the Boston University campus, with easy access to the numerous academic, athletic, and cultural resources found at BU—whether working on assignments in computer labs or attending a talk by an industry leader. Blended courses offer the best of two worlds: face-to-face sessions provide the opportunity to interact on a personal level with professors, collaborate with other students from around the world, and take advantage of everything the Boston University campus has to offer. Online instruction is rigorous, yet provides the flexibility to complete your degree while balancing work, family, and other commitments.
