Virtual Labs
Hands-on virtual labs help students to acquire practical knowledge of modern technologies and skills that are readily applicable in the workplace. For more information about support services provided by MET IT, or to make lab reservations, please visit the MET IT website

Physical Computer Labs
MET supports several physical computer labs to provide an environment where students can gain hands-on experience with technologies relevant to their studies. The labs use virtual images to quickly transition computing environments based on specific course requirements. These images incorporate all software and tools necessary to perform course labs.
Personal Virtual Machines
To minimize the complexity of setting up personal computer configurations required by course learning objectives, students are provided with preconfigured “virtual images” that can be used on their personal computers. The same images are also available in MET computer labs. The images are made available as direct server downloads, DVDs, and/or distributed through a peer-to-peer sharing network.
Remote Access to Virtual Labs
Access to course lab environments is further enhanced by providing students with remote access to virtual machines running in the MET Virtual Datacenter. These machines have everything necessary to perform lab exercises remotely. Unlike Personal Virtual Machines, this type of access is platform-independent, with minimal requirements for a student’s local computer. These environments also provide additional possibilities for groups of students collaborating on course projects.
Cloud Services
Cloud computing services are rapidly becoming mainstream. Through agreements with technology providers, MET students receive access to major web services platforms, including Azure and AWS. To request instructor and student accounts, please contact MET IT.
