Instructional Video Services
Boston University IS&T and MET IT provide a number of different technologies to faculty and students to create recorded digital content. These technologies can be used to:
- Create tutorials and presentations right from your own computer.
- Save classroom notes to a pdf for distribution to students.
- Record audio and video of entire classes for student review.
For more details about the technologies provided, please review the sub-sections below. Should you have further questions, feel free to contact us.
Personal Recording
MyMedia is a cloud-based video streaming service that gives faculty and staff the ability to distribute digital content in a similar fashion to public platforms like YouTube. Unlike YouTube, MyMedia is directly supported by BU IS&T and is designed for the distribution of BU-licensed or created content.
Faculty, staff and students all have access to MyMedia but do have different capabilities:
- Students can access MyMedia to search and view public videos that cover a wide variety of topics and departments. Students can only upload content via Blackboard classes that are integrated with MyMedia.
- Faculty and staff can access MyMedia to search and view public videos, as well as upload, edit and manage their own videos. In addition, faculty and staff have access to recording software provided by Kaltura, allowing for the recording of a user’s camera, audio and desktop.
BU IS&T has a great deal of additional information on features, frequently asked questions and tutorials. For more information, please visit the BU TechWeb

Classroom Capture
MET faculty can record their on campus lectures and classroom events using technologies supported by MET IT and BU IS&T. Please note that recordings will take approximately 1 hour to process after the completion of the classroom. Once processed, recordings can be distributed via the Zoom Library on your Blackboard Course Site or through a shareable link.
MET IT supports the following technologies for classroom capture at the following locations:
1010 Commonwealth Avenue – Teaching Studios:
- The Teaching Studios are fully supported by MET IT for both audio/visual equipment and recording equipment. Faculty using these facilities will be able to record their classes via Zoom Web Conferencing, as well as through Echo 360. If you would like more information or training, please contact us.
Charles River Campus Classrooms:
- Boston University’s Learning & Educational Technology Services (LETS) department directly supports the audio/visual equipment available in all other Charles River Campus classrooms. MET IT can only support the monitoring and troubleshooting of Zoom Web Conferencing remotely for classes held in these facilities. To learn more about the equipment available, locate a classroom with specific technology, or schedule a training/walkthrough of your classroom please visit the LETS website for more information. Any technical issues that occur during a class can be directed to the LETS hotline at 617-353-3227.
Handwriting Capture
MET IT supports handwriting capture devices developed by Wacom, Panasonic, or IPEVO to help with note taking; these devices can be used in both the class and meeting environments as needed. Using a stylus and OpenBoard interactive whiteboard software, users can take their handwritten notes and save them as pdf files for record keeping or distribution.
