Virtual Labs

MET Virtual Labs (VLabs) provide access to a scalable, flexible, and securely managed pool of individual virtual Windows desktops hosted and managed by MET IT.

We offer two types of Virtual Labs:

  • Open VLab – Default virtual desktop space containing software for MET courses
  • Course-Specific VLabs – Special virtual desktop spaces containing course specific software

Support Policy

MET IT is responsible for the following:

  • Providing access to VLabs for students upon faculty request
  • Manage VLabs infrastructure (servers, licenses, machine deployment)
  • Troubleshooting of access to VLabs
  • Troubleshooting of system and software errors

MET IT is not responsible for software support as it relates to completing course assignments. Students should speak with their faculty or teaching assistant for support first before reaching out to MET IT.

Gaining Access

Instructors should complete the Virtual Lab Request form prior to start of their course.

Based on the information provided in the form, the following actions will occur:

  • Open VLabs – If no special software is required, MET IT will grant access to the students and notify the instructor.
  • Course-Specific VLabs – If special software is required, MET IT will set up a meeting to gather further information before creating a unique virtual desktop space.

Once access for a specific course has been requested, future course offerings will be added automatically to the appropriate VLabs access group(s).
