MET IT provides major support for all BU-provisioned laptops for faculty and staff.


Support Policy

MET IT is responsible for the following:

  • Set up of new laptops with employees
  • Providing and tracking loaner laptops and chargers for employees
  • Upgrade BU-provisioned laptops on a 4-year cycle
  • Installation and configuration of software on BU-provisioned laptops
  • Troubleshooting and repairing BU-provisioned laptops

NOTE: MET IT doesn’t repair out-of-warranty devices.

Personal Devices

MET IT is not responsible for any support related to personal devices, regardless of BU affiliation. Should you require assistance with personal devices, please use the following resources:

MET IT Standards

The following models are the standard laptop options at MET:

  • Windows: ThinkPad T14 Generation 4
  • Mac: 14-Inch MacBook Pro: Apple M3 Pro

Non-standard options will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding non-standard options.

Laptop Lifecycle

New Employees

New employees will meet with our team to complete their initial laptop set up. This setup will include:

  • First time log in
  • Set up of key and required software
  • Defining default applications
  • Any special configurations based on job requirements
Existing Employees

Existing employees will be eligible for a new laptop every 4 years (based on warranty). A request for the new machine can be submitted through our Hardware Request form.

Employees are required to return their old machine for recycling/redeployment on the date that they receive their new machine.

Exiting Employees

Exiting employees are required to return their machine to MET IT on or before their final day of work.


Loaner Laptops and Chargers

MET IT has a small collection of loaner laptops and chargers for our employees. Employees can request loaner devices for the following circumstances:

  • For a class, meeting, or event
  • For devices forgotten at home
  • For business trips

MET IT will also provide loaner laptops to clients who require repairs on their main laptop.

All loaner devices should be returned promptly once they are no longer needed. For laptops, please ensure all peripherals available in the carry bag are present upon return.
