Accounts
An account at BU comes with access to a number of different resources based on your affiliation and needs. The accounts at BU include:
- BU Login – The most common account that grants access to the majority of BU systems
- Affiliate – A temporary account for those BU guests that require extended access to BU systems
- Department/Service – Multiple use account(s) that many use for department specific email or setting up automated systems
Support Policy
MET IT is responsible for the following:
- Basic troubleshooting of login issues to BU resources
- Guidance on how to request an Affiliate or Department/Service account
BU IS&T manages all the types of accounts at BU, as well as the associated access. In the event that MET IT is unable to resolve an account issue, the issue will be escalated to BU IS&T for further help.
- BU Login Accounts
-
The BU Login account is often referred to as a Kerberos account, a BU Email account, or a BU Username and Password.
To improve security, all BU Login accounts will require the set up of DUO Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). - Affiliate Accounts
-
An affiliate account must be created by a sponsoring BU department/employee, not the affiliate member.
To improve security, affiliate accounts will require the set up of DUO Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). - Department/Service Accounts
-
A department/service account must have a designated owner (and alternates) to handle account updates such as password changes.
As these accounts do not specifically belong to a single user, 2FA is deactivated.NOTE: Some BU resources can’t be assigned to a department/service account (e.g.-Adobe Creative Cloud license).
- I’m a new employee who was originally a student. Why am I having trouble accessing resources I need for work?
-
This issue relates to changing the permissions your BU Login account has from one affiliation to another. This can be delayed if:
- Human Resources has not updated your position correctly in their system.
- BU IS&T automations do not update the permissions correctly.
Contact us and we will escalate the matter to BU IS&T.
