King Solomon is credited with having built the first temple dedicated to YHWH in Jerusalem. No archaeological remains of this building have been found and all depictions are conjectural.
Because of its religious importance, the Solomonic temple has been depicted many times based on readings of the biblical passages describing it but also on the artists' imagination.
King Solomon himself is described as a king who combined wisdom and prowess (similar to Mesopotamian King Gilgamesh). Most of biblical wisdom literature is attributed to his authorship.
