[Harvard GSAS] Dissecting Science Research Careers: Industry Careers for Scientists

The session led by Mark Namchuk provides an overview of the numerous career options available to scientists in the biopharmaceutical industry. These will be mapped to the various stages in drug discovery, development and commercialization. We will discuss the differences in responsibilities and skill sets required to succeed in these various roles. Time will be available to discuss what these roles are like, and how they may be a good fit for your future.

Speaker Bio: Mark Namchuk currently leads the HMS therapeutics initiative and is the Puja and Samir Kaul professor of the practice of biomedical innovation and translation. Mark joined HMS after 24 years in the biotech industry. This included 17 years at Vertex where he started as a bench researcher in the biochemistry group and finished an SVP of research, and 5 years as the SVP of research, non-clinical and pharmaceutical development at Alkermes. During that time he had a number of roles ranging from bench research scientist, to project lead to senior management and has built and led groups involved in all aspects of drug discovery and development.
