Jennifer Freire (Han Lab) graduated with a B.S in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Inter American University of Puerto Rico, Guayama. She completed a post-baccalaureate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she acquired her first experience working in neuroscience (Parkinson’s disease research). Jennifer became involved in neurophotonics during her rotation in Dr. Han’s lab where she was exposed to optogenetic techniques to further study neurodegenerative diseases. She is currently a rising second year in the department of Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics and expect to graduate in 2024. Jennifer works in the Han lab researching mechanisms of DBS and potential non-invasive brain stimulations to treat Parkinson’s disease through optogenetic applications.
