Manuel Jose Marte is a PhD candidate in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. He received his BA in Speech and Hearing Science from the University at Buffalo and his MS in Communication Disorders from SUNY New Paltz. Upon graduation, he worked as a speech-language therapist in stroke and traumatic brain injury neurorehabilitation. As a current member of the Center for Brain Recovery, he is presently advised by Dr. Swathi Kiran. He aims to leverage advanced statistical and machine learning methods to optimize characterization of semantic processing in persons with aphasia. His expected graduation date is Summer 2025, after which his future goals include pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship that would allow for additional training in neuroimaging methods and application of statistical, algorithmic, and imaging methods to clinical subpopulations, such as in bilingual aphasia.
