Jian Ren

Jian Ren received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena. After serving as the Chief Technology Officer of oProbe LLC, he joined in the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2013. His current research interest lies in biophotonics, neurophotonics, biomedical imaging, nano/micro photonics. He is a recipient of the Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) from the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Ren will be leading a discussion on Interrogation of Intact Murine Brains with Optical Elastic Scattering. Light scattering in complex biological systems, such as intact murine brains, can be controlled through tissue processing. Coherent detection of the scattered photons has unique advantages for pathological investigation of these large-scale systems, including high throughput of readout and stable contrast. From technology to application, this talk will discuss current opportunities and challenges in this promising field.
