Carolyn Marar is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering. She received her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2020. She was first introduced to neurophotonics during her graduate rotations, after which she joined the Ji-Xin Cheng Lab. She is currently conducting research on neuromodulation using microwaves. She has helped develop a device for microwave neuromodulation at submillimeter spatial precision and will continue by studying the mechanism of microwave neural inhibition. She hopes to apply the technology for the treatment of disorders like chronic pain and epilepsy.
