Jack is a BME PhD student in the Economo Lab. His research uses a number of optical tools including confocal imaging of fluorescence in situ hybridization, optogenetic stimulation and inhibition, and serial two-photon tomography of axon collaterals to uncover the cell types, projection patterns, and premotor circuits underlying orofacial movements in mice.

He has a BS and MS in Biomedical Engineering from UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of Arizona respectively. His dissertation topic is to be determined, but will likely use a combination of optical and electrophysiological tools to uncover some of the mechanisms underlying descending motor control, with an anticipated graduation date in 2027.
