ATLAS- A Toolkit of Leadership Approaches and Skills

ATLAS (A Toolkit for Leadership Approaches and Skills) aims to orient first-time people leaders to their roles, connect them to key service providers in BU, and build the foundational skills, competencies, and mindsets in leadership.

Key features include the following:

  • Assigned to all new people managers upon promotion or hire.
  • Supports tactical execution of their roles.
  • Covers of foundational competencies a leader of people needs to be successful.
  • Cultivates relationships with manager of managers for accountability, applied behavior, and measuring impact.

Audience/Eligibility

The program will be assigned to eligible managers based on the date of promotion or hire into supervisory roles. It is the expectation that all eligible new people leaders complete this course within a year of their start date. No action is needed from the supervisor of the participant at this time.

Program outcomes and content

  • Define the role and responsibilities of people leaders at Boston University.
  • Identify and use university resources to accomplish administrative functions of managers.
  • Practice core competencies of an inclusive leader, who aligns tasks and priorities, creates a culture of communications, and develops their people.
  • Practice and apply a self-reflective leadership development approach for continuous curiosity and growth.

Schedule

The program consists of five in-person sessions, culminating in 36 hours away from office, including ample time for lunch and breaks.
