Roland Jaeckel

Roland Jaeckel leads the Office of Distance Education team as the Assistant Dean of Distance Education. His academic background includes a long history of teaching at the college level, including both classroom teaching and individual applied instruction, in the US and Europe.

As an IT professional he has worked in various settings, from software development in Europe to the realm of higher education in the US. Roland has extensive experience with web technologies, databases, software development, project, program, and team management. He served in many management positions building and supervising teams of software developers, support staff, and so on. Before his appointment as the Assistant Dean he served as the Director of Educational Technology at Boston University, where he built a team of educational technologists, educational platform administrators, and educational media producers, bringing new educational technologies and innovative approaches in teaching and learning to the university.

Roland has been involved with online education throughout his career and contributed as a leader to BU’s endeavors into online education, such as MOOCs and digital learning technologies.
