Provost Office and Pardee Center to Host Dialogue on Dealing With Disasters
The Boston University Provosts office and the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future will host a Boston Univeristy Dialogue on “The University’s Role in Dealing with Disasters and Complex Human Emergencies” on Monday, May 3, 2010.
The Dialogue – hosted by University Provost David Campbell, Vice President and Associate Provost for Research Andrei Ruckenstein, and Pardee Center Director Adil Najam – seeks to bring together Boston University faculty and researchers from across all departments and schools of Boston Univeristy who work on different aspects of complex humanitarian emergencies and disasters research, to discuss the potential and future role of the university in humanitarian emergencies and post-disaster recovery and planning.
In particular, the meeting aims to initiate a strategic, university-wide dialogue on the role of the university and academics – in general and in particular at Boston University – in disaster mitigation, post-disaster recovery, planning, and management, and dealing with complex humanitarian emergencies, and identify areas of potential intra-university collaboration and potential collaborations beyond BU.
The meeting follows on a recent Pardee House Seminar on “Dealing With Disasters” which had discussed, among other aspects, the role of knowledge in dealing with disasters and complex human emergencies.
The meeting is by invitation only and will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010, from 10-30AM to 1.30PM at the Kenmore Conference Room, 9th Floor, 1 Silber Way. For more details, contact pardee@bu.edu.
