The Director of the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, Prof. Adil Najam, presented the annual lecture at the Bernstein Forum of the World Affairs Council of Maine, held on May 6, 2010, at the Ludke Auditorium of the University of New England in Portland, Maine.

Prof. Najam’s lecture reflected on the great challenges of human security and human development in the context of climate change. He proposed that we need to not only look at this issues in an integrated and interdisciplinary fashion but that we need to take a longer-range future view of these challenges. He argued that in order to do so we need to think not just at the national level but from a global – and planetary – perspective.
