Prof. Adil Najam Speaks at National University of Singapore

Prof. Adil Najam, Director of the the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and Professor of Global Public Policy at Boston University presented a seminar at the Institute for South Asian Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) on August 12, 2010.
Prof. Najam spoke on the topic of “Climate Change, Security and Development” and the seminar was chaired by Dr. S. Narayan, Head of Research and Visiting Senior Research Fellow at ISAS. Coming in the wake of devastating floods in Pakistan, Prof. Najam also touched on the havoc brought by the floods and argued that while the floods themselves are not directly caused by global climate change, they give us an indication of just how dependent we are on climatic systems and what tragedies unfold when this system is disturbed.
Prof. Najam focussed on the global implications of climate change on development and security and argued that these challenges will be specifically important for developing countries, including those in South Asia.
