Pardee Center to Hold Participatory Gaming Workshop on Climate Risks
The Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future is holding a participatory workshop called “Games for a New Climate” on Tuesday, March 27 to demonstrate how experiential learning can be an effective tool for linking knowledge with action. The event is sponsored by the Pardee Center in collaboration with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre and will be led by Pardee Visiting Fellow Pablo Suarez. The workshop is associated with a Pardee Center Task Force of experts on the development of games as a teaching and learning tool for important decisions related to climate, development, disasters, and humanitarian work. The Task Force will meet at day earlier at Pardee House and will produce a report on this topic to be published later this year.
Boston University undergraduates and graduate students are invited to participate in the March 27 day-long session that will feature interactive games related to climate risks ranging from hurricanes to sea level rise. Students are invited to sign up for one or all of the three game sessions. The aim of the workshop is to show how games can be used to communicate scientifically complex issues in such a way that they are easily understood and can yield changes in outlook and behavior.
The workshop is free but seating is limited, so advance registration is required. The complete schedule can be found here. Game descriptions can be found here. For more information, contact pardee@bu.edu and use the subject line “Gaming Workshop.”
