Faculty Research Fellow Jillian Goldfarb Receives Fulbright Award

Jillian Goldfarb, a research assistant professor in the College of Engineering and a Faculty Research Fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, recently received a Fulbright award for teaching and research for her project titled “Global Insights into Sustainable Energy Engineering and Sustainable Solutions for Municipal Solid Waste Management.”

Prof. Goldfarb’s Fulbright project, for which she will travel to the University of Trento in Italy in spring 2017, will focus on identifying an environmentally friendly and cost-effective strategy for solid waste management in urban areas.

As a Pardee Center Faculty Research Fellow, Prof. Goldfarb is working with Prof. Wendy Heiger-Bernays (Environmental Health) and Prof. David Glick (Political Science) to research global sustainable water access. The interdisciplinary team will develop novel technology for the degradation of microorganisms in water in developing and industrialized urban areas, create a risk assessment model to predict the impact of that technology on human health, and perform surveys and case study research to understand public opinion surrounding water reuse policies.
