Marta Marello Speaks at COP23 Side Event on Climate Change Mitigation

Marta Marello, the BU Climate Action Plan Project Manager, recently spoke at a panel titled “Achieving a Just Transition: Climate Change Mitigation Success Stories from Around the Globe” as part of the side events of COP23, the second United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference of the parties since the Paris Agreement was reached in 2015.

Presenters included members from the Sustainable Markets Foundation, 350.org, and the Climate Scorecard Project/EarthAction who shared mitigation success stories about the transition from fossil fuels towards renewable energy. Marello, who is Italy’s Country Manager for the Climate Scorecard Project, presented on successful renewable energy policies that significantly increased the share of renewable energy production and consumption over the past 10 years. The full panel discussion can be viewed in the video above, and a short version of Marello’s remarks can be viewed on Twitter.

Climate Scorecard is an international effort that monitors and reports on the status of efforts to implement the UN Paris Agreement among leading greenhouse gas emitting countries. It seeks to alert environment leaders and concerned citizens around the world about important issues that need to be addressed if the Paris Agreement is to succeed.

The BU Climate Action Plan Task Force, which is chaired by Anthony Janetos, the Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, recently released its draft plan. The BU community is encouraged to submit feedback on the plan before the final version is presented to the Board of Trustees at their next meeting in December.
