Les Kaufman Plans and Participates in Reef Futures 2018 Symposium

Les Kaufman, a Professor in the Department of Biology and a Faculty Research Fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, recently played a leading role in the planning of the Reef Futures 2018 symposium in Key Largo, Florida.

The symposium was the first global conference addressing coral reef restoration and intervention science, featuring over 550 leading experts from nearly 40 countries. The objective of the conference was to “tackle the challenges facing the planet’s coral reefs by sharing solutions, new research, experimental techniques, and promoting collaboration between global leaders in the field.”

The conference was presented by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Australia’s Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP), and hosted by the Coral Restoration Consortium (CRC), on which Prof. Kaufman represents Boston University as a member of the Steering Committee. Kaufman also served as co-chair of the symposium’s Science Program Planning Committee.
