Pardee School Celebrates Its New Graduate Class

Pardee School ReceptionFaculty and graudate students of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies gathered at the School’s new premises at 121 Bay State Road on September 11, 2014, to celebrate the incoming graduate class. The event was attended by over 100 faculty from the School, including directors of various regional studies centers, and by incoming and continuing graduate students.

Prior to faculty introductions, Dean Adil Najam called for a minute of silence “for remembrance, for contemplation, and for prayer” in memory of 9/11 and the tragic loss of life on that day and in events triggered by that day.

In his opening remarks, Dean Adil Najam welcomed the students and highlighted the fact that the incoming students are the first class to enter BU’s newest school, and that the current second-year students would be the first class of students to graduate from the Pardee School of Global Studies. He briefly described the school and pointed out that it now offers 9 graduate degrees, 2 graduate certificates, 5 undergraduate majors and 8 undergraduate minors through its Division of International Studies and the 6 regional and thematic programs that make up its Division of Regional Studies.

Prof. Joseph Wippl, the Director of Graduate Studies, then led an introduction of the faculty. This was followed by much networking, mingling, and catching-up among faculty and students.
