Gallagher Publishes in China and World Economy

gallagher.jpgKevin Gallagher, associate professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University published an article in the Nov. 18 edition of the journal China and World Economy.

The article is titled “Exporting National Champions: China’s Outward Foreign Direct Investment Finance in Comparative Perspective.” For more information click here.

From the abstract of the article:

We examine the extent to which Chinese development banks have financed the globalization of China’s “national champion” firms: specifically, through outward foreign direct investment (OFDI). We estimate the total value of China’s OFDI finance from 2002 to 2012 at US$140bn. As a percentage of total OFDI, China’s lending is roughly three times higher than Japan’s, the previous global leader in OFDI finance.

Gallagher is the coordinator of Boston University’s Global Development Policy Program.  He is a faculty fellow at BU’s Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future where he leads the Global Economic Governance Initiative. Gallagher is also a research associate at the Global Development and Environment Institute of Tufts University and at the Political Economy Research Institute of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
