Dean Najam Comments on Boston’s Climate Action
An internationally recognized expert on global climate change and Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, Prof. Adil Najam, agrees with President Barack Obama’s administration that the city of Boston has been a national leader in climate action. Commenting in The Daily Free Press (December 5, 2014) on the President’s recognition of 16 communities, including Boston, as ‘Climate Action Champions,’ Dean Najam said that this recognition is not only a moment of pride but should also serve as a call to action to city leaders and residents.
Dean Najam’s remarks were quoted in The Daily Free Press (December 5, 2014) as follows:
“It’s great for Boston,” Najam said. “It’s timely, but I also think that this should be seen as cheering us on, and not necessarily meaning that we’ve done what we need to do and now we can sit back. This is essentially a call for Boston to take it even more seriously, because climate is a long-term, big problem. And this is a call to other cities in the country.”
Dean Adil Najam, who is also a professor of international relations and of earth and environment, has worked extensively on climate and development policy, particularly in developing counries. He served as a Lead Author for the third and fourth assessment reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), work for which the IPCC was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize along with Al Gore.
