Slideshow: BU Remembers Peshawar
The “Free At Last” Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Sculpture at Boston University’s Marsh Chapel has been transformed into a memorial for the more than 140 people killed in a Dec. 16 Taliban attack on a school in Peshawar, Pakistan.
While traveling to several countries in Asia, including Pakistan, Dean Adil Najam of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies spoke to media about the horrific tragedy, saying that it would transform Pakistan.
“I think this has the potential to be a historic moment,” said Najam in an interview with the New York Daily News. “I think everyone senses that.”
Najam also spoke to NPR’s “On Point” from Islamabad and described the mood in the country as one of grief, pain and anger. He pointed out that this has triggered uncommon political and social unity against the Taliban and raised the possibility of increased and more concerted action against extremism in the country.
