The Graduate Student Council (GIRC) at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University elected its new executive board on Feb. 3.

After the originally planned January elections were cancelled due to snow, the GIRC came together at a welcome back event and pizza party that doubled as an opportunity to elect a new President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, GSO Representative, and Member-at-Large.

Elected as President was Charlott Johansen, a first year grad student in the Global Development Policy program.

“I hope to use my time as President to bring the graduate student body together,” Johansen said. “There are a lot of opportunities for the grad students to become even stronger as a group. This is the first year of the Pardee School, and we want to be part of setting a high standard.”

Other executive board members include Tracey Cook (Vice President), Mariana Echaniz (Treasurer), Bill Burkhart (Secretary), Josh Bruno (GSO Representative), and Kate Skow (Member-at-Large).

“The GSO executive board is most responsible for helping their fellow students pursue active engagement in all the Pardee school offers,” said Prof. Joe Wippl, Director of Graduate Studies. “That’s what I hope these officers achieve.”

The next GIRC event is a movie night screening the film “The Baader Meinhof Complex” on Feb. 10. The GIRC student research conference, “Global Development, Peace, and Security: Advancing Human Progress,” will take place Feb. 27-28.
