Vivien Schmidt, director of the Center for the Study of Europe, an affiliated center of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, lent her expertise to a recent research conference at Harvard University.

“At the Harvard Student Conference on Europe, I was moderator for the plenary session,” Schmidt said. “I was joined by European Union Vice President of the Commission for Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Giorgeva, Secretary-General of the External Action Service, Pierre Vimont, and Harvard Professor of History Charles Maier.”

The conference was held Feb. 27 – 28 and billed as a ‘two day forum for policy and business ideas to move Europe forward.” This is the first year that the conference will be held in both the U. S. and Europe; a second session is scheduled for March 18 in Brussels.

Schmidt is Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration, Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University, and Founding Director of BU’s Center for the Study of Europe.  She received her MA and PhD from the University of Chicago, her BA from Bryn Mawr College, and also attended Sciences Po, Paris.  Recent honors, awards, and fellowships include an honorary doctorate from the Free University of Brussels (ULB), the Belgian Franqui Interuniversity Chair, and a Visiting Professorship at the Free University of Berlin.
