William Keylor, Professor of International Relations and History at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, said that fear was on the minds of many attempting transatlantic voyages even in the months before the sinking of the Lusitania, an event that occurred 100 years ago today.

Keylor, a noted expert on the sinking, spoke with CBS News on the centennial of the tragedy – one of the seminal events in the U. S.’s march to war. The May 7 article is entitled “Ignored Warnings, Conspiracy Theories Define Lusitania’s Legacy 100 Years After Sinking.”

From the text of the article:

“If you were planning to go to Europe and you read The New York Times, you certainly should have at least been apprehensive a little bit about the prospect of the sinking of the ship,” said William Keylor, professor of international relations and history at Boston University’s Pardee School of Global Studies.”
