Latin American Studies Holds Reception

The Latin American Studies Program, an affiliated regional center of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, held its 2015 Fall Reception on Sept. 10.

Nearly 100 students, faculty, and friends of the center filled the Pardee School to enjoy Latin American food, including homemade empanadas, pupusas, and guacamole, as well as musical entertainment by local Brazilian folk artists Anna Borges and Bill Ward.

The event was emceed by Director of the Latin American Studies Program Adela Pineda.

“This is a great group of scholars who have been working together since 1991,” Pineda said. “This year, we have many exciting programs to celebrate, including an upcoming panel on Cuba which will be led by Pardee School Professor Renata Keller.”

In addition to Pinela and Keller, Pardee School faculty in attendance at the reception included Robert Loftis, Scott Palmer, Paul Webster Hare, Strom Thacker, Kevin Gallagher and Susan Eckstein. BU professors James Iffland, Alicia Borinsky, Jeffrey Rubin, and Celia Bianconi were also in attendance.

“I’m very glad so many people made it out,” Pineda said. “We have a full plan this year to strengthen our academic programs, as well as build a scholarly community and place to exchange ideas.”
