Thomas Berger, Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, said that the South China Sea was a topic causing tension between the U. S. and China.

Berger made the argument on a Nov. 24 Newsline segment on Japan’s NHK News entitled “An Expert’s View on the South China Sea,” which saw Berger analyzing the topic in the wake of the 10th East Asia Summit.

From the segment:

“China is not that happy with the U. S. and Japan raising this issue. China would like to divide and conquer on maritime issues, where it can negotiate with countries one by one and craft an agreement favorable to itself.”
