Hare Publishes Op-Ed on Brexit Fallout

EU-UK

Amb. Paul Webster Hare, Senior Lecturer at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and former British Ambassador to Cuba, penned a recent Op-Ed the fallout from the British referendum to leave the European Union.

Hare’s Op-Ed, part of a blog entitled “Is Brexit Good Or Bad? Experts Pick A Side,” was published by WalletHub on August 27, 2016.

From the text of the Op-Ed:

The Brexit vote has left many wondering when, if ever, British politics and government will get back to normal. The vote was arranged because of parliamentary calculations. When David Cameron promised it in 2013 the UK Independence Party was surging, castigating the EU over its supposed control over UK immigration. Cameron’s own Conservative party was in coalition with the Lib Dems and Conservatives felt threatened. In fact, Cameron’s promise for an EU renegotiation followed by a new referendum did the trick. He won handsomely in the 2015 election, UKIP were trounced and he secured an absolute majority for the Conservatives.
