Catherine Yeh, Director of the Center for the Study of Asia, welcomed students and faculty back to campus, and also introduced the major theme that the Center will be focusing on during this academic year.

“This year the theme for the Center is ‘Asia in the World: Conflict and Engagement,’” Yeh said. “We thought this theme could create a synergy within our community, and some of the things we are focusing on events that can actually bring this theme to life. We know that Asia has a long tradition in the world. We also know that Asia has very fast interactions with the rest of the world today through the internet. We know that there are economic relationships, political relationships, cultural relationships — the projects we are trying to foster this year will focus on these relationships between Asia and the rest of the world through conflict and engagement.”
