Garčević Speaks at Belgrade NATO Week Conference

Amb. Vesko Garčević, Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, attended the recent Fourth Belgrade NATO Week organized by the Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) and NATO.

The conference covered topics including the nature of future NATO-EU cooperation, key decisions of the Warsaw NATO Summit and their implications for the Western Balkans, the Trans-Atlantic Partners’ relations with Russia and the outcome of the United States election and its implication on the future of Transatlantic partnership. It was the largest conference on NATO held in Serbia to date.

Speakers at the conference included Ambassador Stefano Stefanini of the Podesta Group, Walter B. Slocombe of the U.S. Atlantic Council Board of Directors, Mark D. Simakovsky of the U.S. Atlantic Council, Acting Director of the NATO Information Office in Moscow Robert Pszczel, Ambassador Kyle Scott from the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Ambassador Michael Davenport of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia and Ambassador Arne Sannes Bjornstad from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade.

Amb. Garčević and Amb. Bjornstad were the speakers at a panel on the decisions made at the Warsaw NATO Summit and their implications for the Western Balkans. The discussion was moderated by Amb. Stefanini.

Amb. Garčević also a moderator of the panel about the outcome of the U.S. elections featuring Slocombe and Simakovsky from the U.S. Atlantic Council as the key speakers.
