Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed on United States President Donald Trump’s nomination of  Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, and the impact Trump’s nomination will have on domestic politics in the U.S.

Najam was interviewed for a February 1, 2017 article in BBC entitled “Gorsuch Nominated, Now What?Najam said the nomination of Gorsuch and the upcoming battle over his confirmation will have a deep impact on U.S. domestic politics because Republicans had refused to fill this seat for nearly a year under President Barack Obama.

The nomination will also affect domestic politics due to the recent actions of President Trump and will increase the pressure on many Democrats to make Gorsuch’s nomination a test case, according to Najam.

Najam also pointed out that it is very likely that this will not be the only Supreme Court justice that Trump will appoint and therefore he could fundamentally alter the nature and balance of the Supreme Court – all of which makes Gorsuch’s nomination important.

Adil Najam is the inaugural dean of the Pardee School and is the former Vice Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Lahore, Pakistan. Learn more about him here.
