Amb. Paul Webster Hare, Senior Lecturer at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed for a widely-syndicated article on new opposition from the United States facing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Hare was interviewed by AFP for an article that appeared in publications including El Carabobeno, Le Point International and ISTOE.

From the translated text of the article:

“The United States should convene a broader conference than the OAS, including the EU, the Vatican, the African Union,” said Paul Webster Hare, a former British ambassador to Havana and professor at Boston University.

“We must give strong signals that the world wants to avoid a civil war and a migratory crisis,” he added.

“Venezuelan socialism is not sustainable, unlike what happened in Cuba between 1961 and 1990, which had a powerful political ally in the Soviet Union that provided resources in exchange for fidelity,” said Paul Webster Hare of Boston University and ex- British ambassador to Havana.

Amb. Hare teaches classes at Boston University on Diplomatic Practice, Arms Control, Intercultural Communication and on Cuba in Transition. In Spring 2016 he will offer a new class on Public Diplomacy. His novel, “Moncada – A Cuban Story”, set in modern Cuba, was published in May 2010. His book “Making Diplomacy Work; Intelligent Innovation for the Modern World.’ was published in early 2015.
