Pardee Research Seminar: Gallagher on Development Banks

Gallagher1

Kevin Gallagher, Professor of Global Development Policy and Director of the Global Development Policy Center at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, gave a talk as part of the Pardee School Research Seminar Series on November 1, 2017.

The presentation, entitled “Development Banks and Sustainable Development: Lessons from Latin America,” explored to what extent development banks help trigger a Latin American Country transform toward lower carbon and more socially inclusive development. Gallagher’s research explores the level and determinants of current development finance and analyzes the extent to which all projects are socially inclusive and environmentally sensitive.

Gallagher also discussed the Global Development Policy (GDP) Center, a Boston University-wide research center housed at Pardee School for Global Studies, that focuses on policy-orientated research in the wide-ranging field of global development policy. According to Gallagher, the GDP Center’s mission ties directly into the Pardee School’s mission of advancing human progress by striving for intellectual leadership and global engagement.

Gallagher served on the U.S. Department of State’s Investment Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy and the International Investment Division of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.  He has served as a visiting or adjunct professor at the Paul Nitze School for Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University; El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico; Tsinghua University in China; and the Center for State and Society in Argentina.

The Pardee School Research Seminar Series is a forum for faculty and students to discuss and receive feedback on ongoing research. The series is a mix of presentations, works-in-progress sessions, and research workshops. Faculty and students based at BU and elsewhere are invited to present and attend the Research Seminar Series.
