Garcevic Speaks at Fifth Belgrade NATO Week

Ambassador Vesko Garcevic, Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations at the Frederick S.Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,  was a panelist at the Fifth Belgrade NATO Week held on November 16-17, 2017 by the Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) and NATO. Topics including the new geostrategic environment in Europe, the current cooperation between NATO and the EU, NATO and the Balkans were broadly discussed during the conference.

Participants at the event included senior diplomats from several European states, representatives from the United States military, senior NATO representatives and many European scholars. The list of key speakers included Benjamin Hodges, Commanding General the US Army, Europe; Tacan Ildem, Assistant Secretary General of NATO; Ambassador Branislav Filipović, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Serbia; Kristi Raik, of the Finish Institute for International Affairs and Tanya Domi, professor at Columbia University.

Garčević participated in a panel on NATO and the Balkans along with Rober Psczel, Senior Officer for Russia and the Western Balkans in NATO and Jelena Milić, Director of CEAS. The discussion moderated by Domi and centered around the roles of NATO, the EU and Russia in Europe and the Balkans.

During his diplomatic career, Amb. Vesko Garcevic dealt with issues pertinent to European security and NATO for almost 14 years. In 2004, he was posted in Vienna to serve as Ambassador to Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He had been a Montenegro’s Ambassador to NATO from 2010 until 2014 and served as a Montenegro’s National Coordinator for NATO from 2015 until he joined the faculty at the Pardee School.
