Pardee School Faculty Attend 2018 ISA Conference

Faculty from the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University presented their expertise at the International Studies Association (ISA) Annual Conference, held from April 4-7, 2018 in San Francisco, California. The highly-attended annual convention fosters rigorous discussion on research and writing on a broad range of topics within the field of international studies.

The theme of this year’s conference was “The Rules of Power, The Power of Rules.” Pardee School faculty attending and speaking at the ISA conference included:

  • Joseph Wippl, Professor of the Practice of International Relations, participated in an intelligence studies roundtable entitled “Intelligence, Policy, and Scholarship: Building Harmony or  Managing Discord?” and a discussion entitled “CIA and US Diplomacy: Political vs Professional Leadership.”
  • John D. Woodward, Jr., Professor of the Practice of International Relations, participated in an intelligence studies roundtable entitled “Intelligence, Policy, and Scholarship: Building Harmony or  Managing Discord?”
  • Jeffrey G. Karam, Lecturer in International Relations, chaired an intelligence studies roundtable entitled “Intelligence, Policy, and Scholarship: Building Harmony or  Managing Discord?” and participated in a discussionentitled “The Impact of Policymaker Mindsets on Strategic Intelligence Analysis.”
  • Jayita Sarkar, Assistant Professor of International Relations, participated in discussions entitled “The Stakeholders Inside: Sub-State Institutions in India’s  Relationships with Israel and France,” and “The Market and the Bomb: The Logic of US Leverage on Nuclear  Suppliers.”
  • Henrik Selin, Associate Professor of International Relations, chaired an environmental studies panel session entitled “Meeting the Objective of the Minamata Convention on Mercury:  Opportunities and Challenges,” and participated in a discussion entitled “How to Evaluate the Effectiveness of the Minamata Convention on  Mercury?”
  • William Grimes, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, participated in a discussion entitled “Financializing Mobility: Digital Payment Infrastructures,  Remittances, and Financial Inclusion.”
  •  Daivi Rodima-Taylor, Senior Researcher at the African Studies Center, participated in a discussion entitled “Financializing Mobility: Digital Payment Infrastructures,  Remittances, and Financial Inclusion.”
