Selin Appointed Earth Systems Project Senior Research Fellow

Henrik Selin, Boston University, Pardee School

Henrik Selin, Associate Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently appointed a Senior Research Fellow with the Earth Systems Project, a global research alliance and the largest social science research network in the area of governance and global environmental change.

The Earth System Governance research alliance takes up the challenge of exploring political solutions and novel, more effective governance mechanisms to cope with the current transitions in the biogeochemical systems of the planet. The normative context of this research is sustainable development; earth system governance is not only a question of institutional effectiveness, but also of political legitimacy and social justice.

“I am honored and very happy to join this group of internationally distinguished researchers who conduct cutting edge policy-relevant work on critical environmental governance issues,” Selin said. “Being a Senior Research Fellow with this very dynamic research network will allow me to further advance my interdisciplinary research agenda while engaging in stimulating discussions and collaborations with other researchers from different regions, backgrounds and fields.”

Henrik Selin conducts research and teaches classes on global and regional politics and policy making on environment and sustainable development. He is a Hans Fischer Senior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at the Technical University of Munich.  His most recent book is EU and Environmental Governance, by Routledge Press, and is also the author of Global Governance of Hazardous Chemicals: Challenges of Multilevel Management by MIT Press.
