Pardee Works: Careers With the U.S. Department of Commerce
The Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University hosted an October 3, 2018 talk on internship and career opportunities with the United State Department of Commerce with Jim Paul, Director of the Department’s Boston office. The talk was held as part of the school’s Pardee Works series.
Paul provided insights as to how his agency assists U.S. exporters with their international sales activities via its global network of offices at U.S. Embassies and Consulates.
He also addressed his office’s collaboration with various partners on global trade issues and his agency’s dynamic working environment. As he coordinates his office’s internship program and any hiring for full-time positions, Paul was also able to outline general application procedures and tips.
Based on his extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, Paul also briefed students on international relations and trade career opportunities.
The Pardee Works series focuses on bringing professionals currently working in the diverse field of global studies to present for and network with Pardee School students. In addition to the annual Pardee Works career symposium, recent Pardee Works talks have covered topics including career opportunities at the CIA and DIA and careers in the Foreign Service. The next Pardee Works talk will focus on how to manage the job application process and how to have a powerful networking conversation.
