Pardee School Hosts Family and Friends Weekend Open House

The Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies hosted an October 19, 2018 open house at 121 Bay State Road as part of Boston University’s Family and Friends Weekend that gave Pardee School parents the opportunity to meet with Pardee School faculty.

At the open house, family and friends of Pardee School students enjoyed a reception and viewed highlights from the school’s 2018 convocation ceremony.

Dean Adil Najam highlighted both the graduate and undergraduate academic programs offered at the Pardee School, as well as the regional and thematic centers housed within the Pardee School. He also emphasized the opportunities afforded to Pardee School students to interact with high-level leaders and policymakers who are regularly hosted by the school, as well as the numerous study abroad programs offered at the school.

“Our goal is to be able to send your students out into the world so that they can have productive careers, have successful lives, and — this to us really means a lot — turn the world into a better place,” Najam said. “That’s what we are in the business of.”

Min Ye, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School, urged both parents and students in attendance to reach out to herself and her faculty colleagues with questions about the school’s academic offerings at any time.

“As a faculty member, and particularly as Director of Undergraduate Studies, I do really enjoy working with students. No matter what kind of questions they have, none are too small,” Ye said. “My conversations with students always bring out so many new insights. My colleagues and I are always available to meet with students if they have any questions or even if they just want to chat.”

The Pardee School believes establishing a relationship with parents and family members is a crucial component of a successful college experience for our students. Family members and friends are partners in the process of learning and development and are an important part of the Pardee School family.

Boston University’s Family and Friends Weekend is a celebration of Boston University students and those people they hold closest. In addition to giving family and friends the opportunity to explore campus and meet with faculty, Family and Friends Weekend allows students to proudly show off how much they’ve learned, expanded their horizons, and sharpened their talents during the weekend events.
