GDP Center Hosts La Batea Book Discussion

The Global Development Policy (GDP) Center, an affiliated center of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, and their  Land Use and Livelihoods Initiative hosted an October 18, 2018 book discussion with the authors of La Batea.

La Batea is the fruit of a six-year collaboration between photographer Stephen Ferry and his sister, anthropologist Elizabeth Emma Ferry. Their book documents the struggles of gold mining communities in Colombia to defend their way of life against armed criminal organizations and multinational corporations seeking their gold. Colombia reflects the situation of local communities worldwide who face violent repression for opposing large-scale mining projects in their territories.
