Fewsmith Meets With Taiwan’s Vice President

Joseph Fewsmith, Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, accompanied the Harvard University Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies Taiwan Studies Workshop to Taiwan and China from January 7-17, 2019. 

Fewsmith and the workshop met with Taiwan’s Vice President Chen Chien-jen, newly-elected mayor of Kaohsiung Han Kuoyu, as well as other officials.

On the mainland, Fewsmith and the workshop attended an all-day seminar at Xiamen University as well as meetings at the State Council’s Office of Taiwan Affairs and the Institute for Taiwan Studies.

Fewsmith is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. He is the author or editor of eight books, including, most recently, The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China (January 2013). Fewsmith travels to China regularly and is active in the Association for Asian Studies and the American Political Science Association.
