Longman Presents at Conference on Responding to Extreme Violence

Timothy Longman, Associate Professor of International Relations and Political Science and Director of the Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, presented a paper at a March 20-22, 2019 conference in Paris on responding to extreme violence.

The conference was hosted by Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), l’Institute d’Études Advancées de Paris, Foundation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, and Centre de Reflexion Sur L’Action Et Les Saviors Humanitaires.

Longman presented a paper entitled “20 Years After Leave None to Tell the Story : What Do We Now Know About the Rwandan Genocide?” One day of the conference was dedicated to Syria, another on Rwanda, and a third on Congo.

Longman’s current research focuses on state -society relations in Africa, looking particularly at human rights, transitional justice, democratization, civil society, the politics of race and ethnicity, religion and politics, and women and politics.
