Pardee Professor Appointed Faculty in Residence

John D. Woodward, Jr., Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, has been appointed a Faculty in Residence at Kilachand Honors College, beginning with the Fall 2019 semester.

BU’s Faculty in Residence (FIR) program, overseen by Associate Provost and Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore, seeks to expand students’ classroom learning by providing a residential experience that is interdisciplinary, informal, and engaging.  As a FIR, John lives in Kilachand Hall in lower Bay State Road and engages with students on a daily basis. He also hosts guest speakers and special events.

“Working with Professor Woodward as our Faculty-in-Residence has been an amazing experience,” said Glenn Korman (Pardee 2020), a resident assistant at Kilachand. “He has hosted interesting speakers and regularly interacts with the students.  We look forward to his weekly open hours and the opportunity to have a conversation with him.”

Woodward said he appreciates the opportunity to mentor motivated young people who want to make the world a better place.

“The Kilachand students’ intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm, and idealism are contagious,” Woodward said.

Woodward is a former Central Intelligence Agency officer who, during his twenty-year CIA career, served as an operations officer in the Clandestine Service and as a technical intelligence officer in the Directorate of Science and Technology, with assignments in Washington D.C., East Asia, Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. He also served as the Director of the U.S. Department of Defense Biometrics Management Office from 2003-2005 where he received the Army’s third highest civilian award for his work on using biometric technologies to identify national security threats.
