Schmidt Named a Most-Cited Scholar by APSA Journal
Vivien Schmidt, Professor of International Relations and Political Science at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, has been named as one of the 100 currently most-cited scholars, the 25 most-cited in her PhD cohort, and the 40 most-cited women scholars by PS: Political Science & Politics, one of the American Political Science Association’s official journals.
Schmidt was recognized by PS: Political Science & Politics in an article entitled “The Political Science 400: With Citation Counts by Cohort, Gender, and Subfield.”

This update of The Political Science 400 again identifies the 400 most highly cited scholars in the profession who are currently teaching at PhD-granting departments in the United States, with their primary appointment in that department, by tallying the citations to lifetime bodies of work in all journals and books. It includes citation data from when scholars began receiving citations to their most recent work.

Schmidt is Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration at Boston University. Her research focuses on European political economy, institutions, democracy, and political theory. She has published a dozen books, over 200 scholarly journal articles or chapters in books, and numerous policy briefs and comments, most recently on the Eurozone crisis. Her current work focuses on democratic legitimacy in Europe, with a special focus on the challenges resulting from the Eurozone crisis, and on methodological theory, in particular on the importance of ideas and discourse in political analysis (discursive institutionalism). She is a 2018 recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship for a US-EU comparative study of the ‘rhetoric of discontent.’ She is a Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor — France’s highest honor.
