European Center Panel Discusses European Future After Brexit

The Center for the Study of Europe, an affiliate center of the Pardee School of Global Studies, hosted a rich panel discussion on March 4, 2020, on the implication of Brexit on Europe and the world. The panel builds on a series of events that the Center has hosted over the last number of years to follow the developments and think about the implications of this major shift in European, and possibly, global dynamics.

This year, with Brexit “done”, the Center revisited the topic. The panel included Daniela Caruso, the new Director of the Center for the Study of Europe, Prof. Erik Goldstein  and Amb. Paul Hare from the BU Pardee School, Prof. Graham Wilson from the BU Department of Political Science, and Prof. Tarek Hassan from the BU Department of Economics. The participants discussed the implications of the Brexit decision from the legal, political and policy perspectives and were of the view that even as Brexit becomes more clear, there is no greater clarity in the implications it will have either on Britain or on Europe.

The mission of the Center for the Study of Europe is to promote understanding of Europe through its cultural heritage; its political, economic, and religious histories; its art, literature, music, and philosophy; as well as through its recent emergence as a new kind of international form through the European Union (EU).  Operationally, the center provides a focal point and institutional support for the study of Europe across Boston University through coordination of teaching missions, support of research, community-building among faculty and students, and outreach beyond the University.
