Najam Presents Great Decisions Lecture at WorldBoston

Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, presented on Kashmir and India-Pakistan relations during a Great Decisions lecture at WorldBoston on May 29, 2020. The lecture was presented online in collaboration with WGBH Forum, which will be releasing its video shortly, and explored the relationship between India and Pakistan as well as what the future might hold for the burning hotspot of Kashmir.

Great Decisions is the largest nonpartisan public education program on international affairs in the world. Created in the 1950s by the Foreign Policy Association, a sister World Affairs Council, Great Decisions engages citizens in learning about critical global issues and U.S. foreign policy.

Dean Najam’s presentation discussed the Kashmir conflict, which he argued is the core and defining issue in India-Pakistan relations. He described Kashmir as “the worlds oldest unresolved global conflict” and argued that the global failure in dealing with the conflict has been not just a colossal failure of India and Pakistan, but of the world community itself. Dean Najam discussed how Kashmir is more than just a bilateral conflict, and explored how major global powers such as the U.S. and China may become embroiled in the growing conflict.

A recording of the event will be available here once it is processed by WGBH.
