Najam Discusses Beirut Explosion with Hum News
Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was interviewed by Hum News regarding the recent explosion in Beirut, Lebanon that left at least 100 people dead and thousands more injured.
During the interview, Najam discussed the far-reaching political ramifications of the blast as well as the speculation surrounding the incident. He stated that while there have been talks of conspiracy and targeted attacks, the dominant global sentiment has been solidarity with Lebanon and its people. Whether the explosion was an accident or not, Najam speculated that the political outfall of this event will be widespread as it has dramatically effected everyone in Beirut and every facet of their lives.
Najam also commented on President Donald Trump’s remarks following the incident. While President Trump said that he has reached out to Lebanon and would assist, Najam argued that any sort of aid effort will raise questions given Lebanon is in the Middle East.
